Here is a book with interest value for an audience different from the one intended. The editors’ or publisher’s target audience is British practitioners working with under-threes and providers of early childhood services. It may not be likely that great numbers of practitioners and service providers will take up this academic book which sets out to convince them of the merits of a policy with enthusiasm.
In contrast, readers in other countries working in policy, academia, and teacher education are unlikely to consider the text dreary and hard to keep reading – quite the opposite, they will find it extremely interesting. Abbott and Langston provide a priceless insight into the development of, and rationales for, their country’s policy framework of effective (note not ‘best’) practice for working with under-threes.
