If you are open to questioning your basic assumptions about how you deal with children then this book is for you.
In this book Porter challenges widely held concepts about discipline – her basic premise is that the only discipline worth having is self-discipline. She identifies two basic styles of teaching – controlling and guiding, and makes a potent case for the latter. As she says on page 42 “discipline must aim to educate children in moral decision making rather than simply imposing conformity to adult standards.”
