Arthur Burns Preschool - Mosgiel

Arthur_burns_3Located in Mosgiel, Arthur Burns Preschool is a community based, parent governed centre with a teaching staff.

Morning or afternoon sessions are available for up to 25 children at a time aged between 2 ½ to 5 years. The Management Committee, including the Licensee is made up of parents.

Open:  8.15am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday, and from 1.15pm to 3.15pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Closed for the same holidays as the neighbouring Silverstream Primary School.

Minimum Hours of Enrolment:  Children can attend all the morning sessions or all the afternoon sessions, but may attend only one session a week if this is what a family needs.

Address:  4A Gretna Place, Mosgiel

Online:  _

Children with Disabilities:   Physically the building is designed for full wheelchair access in all areas. The staff listen to and take advice from parents and any agencies involved and seek any further information or professional support if needed to enhance the quality of a child’s participation.

Children with Medical Conditions:  Prior to a child starting the Centre contacts the local Public Health Nurse to write up an Individual Health Plan with the child’s parents. The plans are kept in a prominent place for teachers and all adults working with the child to be aware of and to follow.

Arthur_burns.2Gifted and Talented Children:  In-depth experiences/projects are provided to extend the child’s learning. And as for all children, the staff stress the importance of supporting their development of confidence, positive social skills and communication skills.

Children with Special Learning Needs:  If a child with special learning needs has not already been referred, following consultation with the parents we make a referral to an appropriate agency. Staff focus on giving children learning experience and helping them to develop confidence, positive social skills and communication skills.

Staff Gender:  All staff are women.

Languages Spoken by Staff Fluently:  English

Range of Different Qualifications held by Staff:

  • Diploma of Teaching
  • Bachelor of Education

Parent Say:  As a parent governed service it would be a rare situation for the Management Committee to be out-of-step with the views of the parent community

Grouping Practices:  The morning sessions are for older children and afternoon sessions for  younger children.
