Te Whare Hauora - Wellington
Te Whare Hauora Early Childhood Centre is a small publicly owned centre, managed as a non-profit making charitable trust, providing full-day care for 24 children (ages 6 months to 5 years).
Priority for places at this popular centre is given to Ministry of Health employees, though other families can be accepted space permitting.
Open: Monday to Friday 7.45am – 5.30pm (all children attend these hours). Remains open school holidays.

Gifted and Talented Children: Gifted children are catered for in the same way as others within the centre programme.
Children with Special Learning Needs: The centre has links to the local Ministry of Education Group Special Education services
Children with Disabilities: Easy access for a child in a wheelchair is not available. The qualified early childhood teachers are happy to work with children with disabilities and meet special requirements.
Children with Medical Conditions: The centre supervisor is an ex-neonatal nurse and has a medical background.
Staff Gender: All staff are women.
Languages Spoken by Staff Fluently: Samoan, Chinese, Africans and English (some Maori is also known)

- NZ Bachelor degrees in early childhood teaching, learning and education
- Philippines Bachelors degree in early childhood education

Parent Say: If parents wanted or opposed a management change the majority parent opinion would rule as the parents run the centre as a committee.
Grouping Practices: Children under two-years have their own area separate from the over twos. The two groups see each other and visit on some occasions. They all share the outdoor space together.

1. Our Children
- It has been reported by ERO, visiting teacher education lecturers and students as well as staff relievers that our children are display very good behaviour, they work well together and respect each other and the teachers.
- Student teachers on placement often say our children do not need them, our children do not need adults for mundane roles but they enjoy adults supporting them in their learning to reach to the next level of ability.
2. The Indoor Environment
- Our environment is set out in a way that it speaks to children about the types of activities that they could expect to engage in. The children are able to access much of their own equipment from storage shelves.
- We have the luxury of being able to shop almost immediately to provide goods or props to support children’s learning and our programme planning.
