An Essential Learning Opportunity for Head Teachers, Supervisors, Centre Managers and Service Owners brought to you by the National Foundation for the Deaf and ChildForum
To be Held at Kamo Childcare Centre 7 Clark Road, Whangarei
Gain the latest information on noise induced hearing loss, key sources of noise within early childhood programmes, what can be done to lessen noise, and how to help children reduce their noise levels to improve the learning environment for all.
Professional presenter Tim Corbett from the National Foundation for the Deaf will take you through a ‘package’ of strategies to manage noise from teaching strategies to child management, to surfaces and materials that soak up noise.

Tim will demonstrate a new ‘Safe Sound Indicator’ developed for the early childhood sector that enables children to identify and manage high noise exposure, and provides a visual feedback tool for both children and adults.

Noise is now considered a harm issue. Under the new Regulations and Criteria educators, centres and home-based services have a legal responsibility to:
- Take all practicable steps to ensure the noise levels do not unduly interfere with normal speech and/or communication, or cause any child distress or harm.
- Have premises and facilities that provide noise control to support appropriate curriculum implementation and safe and healthy practices.
Centres must work towards using acoustic absorption materials in parts of the building used by children if necessary. And centres are required to ensure that fluctuations in noise are minimised when children are sleeping. |
