Natasha asks: Does anyone out there have an interview questionnaire they use and have found works well when interviewing applicants for a teaching position?
The questions you will ask as an employer need to be flexible and may differ from one job applicant and interview situation to another. Considerations include the responsibilities of the position, the skills and knowledge required of a person to meet the job description (e.g. will they be working with babies or older children, with new immigrants, or children with special needs?), and the values and needs of your organisation.
As part of shortlisting applicants for a position verify the person's identity - check references, talk with referees, check for other names the person may be known by, and look for unexplained gaps in the person's employment and teaching record. For a teaching position, check if at any time the teacher's practising certificate has been suspended (or cancelled) and if teacher registration has been declined. Do not overlook police checks and do not promise a position until the police check is complete.
