The funding each service gets per child per hour (20 Hour and 30 Hour subsidy rates)

20 Hours Free ECE

In terms of the actual public money paid directly to your child's service provider for each hour your child attends up to 30 hours a week, below are charts showing the amounts paid (these are the current funding rates as at 1 July 2014 for all services except for kindergartens the rates were last increased on 1 May 2017).

Different service types are paid at different rates by the Ministry of Education, and the rate is set differently depending upon a child's age (under-2 years, over 2 years, or 3 years or older) and if claiming up to 20 hours ECE as part of the 30 hours a week funding.

If a service claims the 20 hours ECE funding rate for a child, but the child stays longer than 20 hours, then up to a further 10 hours can be claimed at the usual subsidy rate.

The Government has a specific obligation as employers of kindergarten teachers to offer any agreed payments in the Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement to kindergarten teachers.
