Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood)

  • 3 years full-time (part-time available)
  • On-campus in Christchurch
  • There is also a flexible learning option:  attendance at intensives/block courses in either Christchurch or New Plymouth.  New Plymouth-based students must also attend class one half-day per fortnight.
  • Study year: February – November

Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching

  • Study year: February – November
  • 1 year full-time
  • Able to study anywhere in NZ but must attend 3 intensive block courses in Christchurch

The programme consists of 10 courses (15 points each) completed in two semesters beginning in early February and finishing in November. Three of the 10 courses are Professional Practice (3 x 5 weeks), making a total of 15 weeks of professional practice in early childhood settings.

Students will experience a kindergarten as well as an education and care setting where they are placed with an experienced associate teacher. All students will undertake an infant and toddler placement.

The programme is offered through a blended learning model and students will thus study largely by distance. Students will attend three blocks of face-to-face classes (on-site intensives) at the Dovedale campus in Christchurch during the year.

Having heard a colleague talk about how useful she had found their material I joined. ChildForum's replies to my queries are prompt, extremely informative & with a genuine personal touch. I am impressed by the commitment to research & courage in tackling the hard issues like the risks of poor quality care for under 2s
