Preparing your talk or presentation - tips for introduction, content and structure

"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail".

Here are some practical tips for preparing to give a research presentation at a meeting, seminar or conference - to help you to be a suceess!  

1. Your presentation and paper should reflect a strong research bias.  People don't attend a conference or research presentation expecting to hear your political views, slide shows of children at play, or to be shown teaching resources in the absence of a strong focus on research.

2. Work out a clear structure for your presentation, and have notes with bullet points to support the structure you will follow. Have a clear beginning in which you outline what you will present, a middle with the content, and end in which you review what you presented. Typical structures for a completed paper presentation are usually something like this:
