Back from Holidays? Here are 7 Tips to Ease Back into the Swing of Things

The following tips for making the adjustment to being back at your early childhood service after a holiday or other break away will help you cope well and help others around you.

These are also useful reminders for experienced people of the best ways of slipping back into work life and smoothing the transition for children and others around you.

Tip 1: Don’t worry, be happy

Children need to see their carers relaxed, positive and cheerful at the start of a new day and especially at the start of a new term.  Ease into it without putting pressure on yourself. Most important is to enjoy and for the children to see you enjoying.

Set up a few simple activities beforehand so that you can then give your full and loving attention to arriving children.

Tip 2: Get down… wear out those jeans (... or whatever your preferred clothing for work is)

Some days we all forget or find excuses not to do this.  If you’re wearing out the knees of a pair of jeans each term then you’re doing it right.

Getting down to the children at their level enables more respectful and effective interaction than giant adults looming from high above.

Investing in knee pads or buying jeans from op shops avoids the heartbreak of ripping new jeans.
