TOPIC: debt collectors for unpaid fees

debt collectors for unpaid fees 2 months 3 weeks ago #14

We've got a family thats racked up over $1,000 in unpaid fees and they have been ignoring my requests to catch up. Does anyone use debt collectors?

The agencies fees can be really high. Not really worth it for small amounts but for $1,000 I would.

Do you have a debit collection policy? Parents incur a 10% admin fee if the debit is referred to an agency but we've not needed to do this YET.

Yes we use debt collection but first we try very hard to make a payment plan with the client. For those who don’t respond to us we include door knocking. We offer deals, whereby the family pay a portion by a given date and we then discount the balance. This often works.

Our Parent Agreement states that any debt collection fees incurred will be added to their debt and in most cases debt collection fees are 20% so this is quite a sizeable addition. We do have some success with debt collection and think it is worth it if only to have an affect on the credit rating of the debtor.
