Privately Funded Scholarships To Cover Childcare Fees at Centres Engaged in Quality Improvement

ENERGY COMPANY CONTRIBUTES MONEY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS TO FUND THE COST OF EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN ENROLLED AT CENTRES UNDERGOING QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Michigan. April,  2012 - Individual scholarships funded from a grant provided by the DTE Energy Foundation will  cover 75 percent of the cost of childcare for families for one year.  In return early childhood centres/childcare provides must agree to a year-long quality assessment, funded by the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan.

By improving the childcare centre's quality through the national-recognised PQA (programme quality assessment) process, all the children in the centre will likely benefit. The PQAs will be administered by Great Start Collaborative Oakland (Oakland Schools) and Child Care Network.  The Women's Caring Programme is overseeing the scholarships for childcare, and because the scholarships are linked to the quality of service it is hoped that this will help raise the bar for providers.
