Singapore is leading the way professionally in developing a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework to give all teachers working in ECE structured pathways to develop and update their professional knowledge and skills.
The new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework aims to enhance childcare quality by further developing manpower capabilities within the sector.
It defines and maps the progressive levels of competencies required in core domains such as child development, learning environment and curriculum as childcare professionals progress in their roles.
It also outlines tools, activities and resources that can help centres evaluate and support the professional development needs of their teachers.
The framework was developed by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), in close consultation with early childhood experts.
Focus group discussions were also held with operators and teachers to ensure that the framework would be relevant and meet the needs of the industry.
To complement the launch of the framework, a series of training seminars and workshops will be conducted for childcare supervisors on the use of the CPD toolkit to plan and track the development of their personnel.
