Fostering Teamwork Within Your Team

teamwork© ChildForum

When most teachers/ educators are asked who the most important people in an early childhood service are, they will answer, “The Children”.

Children are the ultimate reason that teachers have chosen a career in early childhood education and probably the main reason why you got involved in the sector. It is, however, important that we do not forget the importance of the teaching team in ensuring that best outcomes are achieved for the tamariki.

Being a part of a team is an essential component in any service and team cohesiveness is vital to ensure that we provide quality education for the tamariki.

Te Whāriki describes teachers/ educators as the “key resource in any ECE service”. Putting your teaching team first is not neglecting the children. On the contrary, the more you take care of staff, the more cohesive and productive your team will be leading to positive learning outcomes for tamariki.
