Early childhood teacher training scholarships 2020

2. Below are details about the TeachNZ scholarships available for 2020. The second round of applications closes on 24 January 2020 

Our Te Huawhiti Career Changer - a total of 85 scholarships for student teachers in any sector: ECE, primary and secondary

  • Course fees + maximum allowance of $30,000 per year  (1st year of tertiary study is free anyway under government policy)
  • Eligibility criteria:  You must be changing your career or profession to teaching.  NZ permanent residence or NZ citizen and enrolled in or intending to enrol in a recognised teacher education qualification. 

Te Huarau - a total of 130 scholarships for student teachers in any sector: ECE, primary and secondary

  • Course fees + maximum allowance of $10,000 over the entire course of study 
  • Eligibility criteria:  NZ permanent residence or NZ citizen and enrolled in or intending to enrol in a recognised teacher education qualification. 

Te Waka Whakarei Career Changer Scholarship - a total of 90 scholarships for student teachers in any sector: ECE, primary and secondary 

  • Course fees + maximum allowance of $30,000 per year  (1st year of tertiary study is free anyway under government policy)
  • Eligibility criteria: You must be changing your career or profession to teaching.  NZ permanent residence or NZ citizen and enrolled in or intending to enrol in a recognised teacher education qualification. Have proficiency in te reo Māori that meets the requirements of your tertiary provider » Have support from your iwi and/or Māori leaders in your community.
  • There are only 5 qualifications in ECE from 5 providers that you can be enrolled in for this scholarship 

Te Tipu Whakarito Scholarship - a total of 130 scholarships for student teachers in any sector: ECE, primary and secondary 

  • Course fees + maximum allowance of $10,000 over the entire course of study (1st year of tertiary study is free anyway under government policy)
  • Eligibility criteria:  NZ permanent residence or NZ citizen and enrolled in or intending to enrol in a recognised teacher education qualification. Have proficiency in te reo Māori that meets the requirements of your tertiary provider » Have support from your iwi and/or Māori leaders in your community
  • There are only 5 qualifications in ECE from 5 providers that you can be enrolled in for this scholarship.

Kupe scholarship - a total of 30 scholarships for student teachers in any sector

  • Course fees + maximum of $15,000 allowance over the entire course of study.  Free mentoring assistance. (1st year of tertiary study is free anyway under government policy)
  • Eligibility: Must be of Māori or Pacific descent.  Must have Māori or Pacific cultural knowledge.  Integrity, leadership and vision.  Support from your iwi/Pacific community and Māori or Pacific leaders in your community. Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.  Have successfully completed at least one full year of an approved teaching qualification, OR have academic excellence and be enrolled in one of the approved Graduate Diploma/Master of Teaching. Have a B+ grade average or above (applies to undergraduate only).
